Nadia Comaneci, (born November 12 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej [now Onesti(born November 12, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej, now One Romania) Romanian gymnast who was the first gymnast in history to get a flawless score of 10 in an Olympic event. Bela Karolyi was later Romanian Gymnastics Coach discovered Comaneci in the age of 6 years old. In 1969, she took part in the Romanian Junior Championships where she placed 13th. She took home the trophy in 1970. She was awarded three golds during her first event which was a junior Olympic meet in 1972 that was held by communist bloc countries. In 1973 and 1974, she became the junior all-around champion. She topped Russian Lyudmila Torishcheva, the five-time European Champion in her first international senior competition in the year 1975. At this competition, she received four golds, and a silver. She took home the American Cup in New York City in 1976 becoming the first woman in history to complete the backward double salto in dismounting off the uneven parallel bars. When she was in her teens she started appearing on travelling shows such as Ice Capades as a skater together with her younger sister Nina Wayne. Carol Marie Wayne is a American citizen who was born on September 6, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Carol began her career in entertainment during her teenage years. At the age of 13 she was a figure skater on the show Ice Capades with her sister Nina Wayne. They featured staged ice skating performances.
